STUDY 1
HOT EMBER FORMATION REDUCED 97% WITH NO EMBERS
In 2019 Dr. David Blunck, Assistant Profession of Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University (OSU), did an independent, randomized controlled trial of No Embers. Twelve Douglass Fir trees were subjected to an intense fire designed to mimic a forest fire. Half of the trees (six) were coated with No Embers and half were uncoated controls. The average number of hot embers created from the control group was 92 compared to just 3 in the treated group. A PowerPoint presentation of the study is available on the OSU website through this link.
STUDY 1
CONE CALORIMETER DATA: SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION OF HEAT RELEASE AND TIME TO IGNITION
Cone calorimeter data at 50KW/M2 from an independent lab at School of Fire Engineering at University of Maryland.
Dr David Blunck at OSU prepared two uncoated Douglass Fir needle samples for control and two samples that were coated in No Embers solution. These were sent for cone calorimeter testing at an independent laboratory at the University of Maryland School of Fire Engineering. (See photo of the sample before heat application below). During the 300 second test, the No Embers coated samples had a significantly longer time to ignition (2.5 times longer to ignite) and total heat release was reduced by 65% and peak heat release was reduced by 73%. See the data in the chart below:
Below: Sample of Douglass Fir needles before being sent for cone calorimeter testing. The samples were subjected to 50KW/M2 during the calorimeter testing.
